Wild silk with a gold cast and a dry, textured hand. Heavier than mulberry, and far less shiny.

Description

Madder over tussar, which reads warmer and more orange than madder over cotton because of the silk's own gold. A long straight kurta with a keyhole back, matching churidar, and a tussar dupatta finished with a hand-knotted fringe.

Fabric & care

Tussar comes from silkworms that feed on arjun and sal in open forest rather than on cultivated mulberry. The cocoons are larger and coarser, and the reeled thread carries a natural gold cast that no dye fully covers — which is why madder over tussar reads warmer than madder over cotton. It has a dry, slightly papery hand and a matte lustre. We use it for the pieces meant to be worn at night.

Dry clean only. Keep away from direct sunlight, which will fade the gold cast unevenly.
